The project was an unused public area behind the client's house which was bare, untidy and made the whole neighbourhood look bad. The client wanted something simple, low maintenance and attractive. Just like every household in Cyprus, the main problem to deal with was the water shortage.
So, at the perimeter we planted some bushes and some larger growing trees which included Delonix regia (Flame of the forest) and Jacaranda mimosifolia for colour. The centre piece is a large raised cacti and succulents area, decorated with rocks. The whole surface was covered in gray and white gravel for decoration but also, first of all to save water by minimizing evaporation and to stop the weeds growing. The area was further decorated with pots, a bench and a wooden barrow. To mark the entrance of the area, a metal arch was placed where honeysucle will climb and cover, providing a very fragrant entrance.
