Agaves (From Our Private Collection of Cacti and Succulents) Agaves are fascinating plants, most of them majestic in size and in looks. They come from the American continent where they are seen growing in all types of climatic conditions, usually in harsh climatic conditions. Because of their extreme drought tolerance, they are ideal plants for our gardens. Not only they require little water and almost no care at all, they are impressive both in pots and in the ground. They are often used as accent plants and multiple plantings create a unique point in the garden. What is very interesting with most agaves is that they only flower once in their lifetime. After they flower they will die usually leaving behind thousands of seeds or young plants (bulbils). Most agaves tend to offset repeatedly during their lifetime. Our collection consists of a limited number of plants, the ones that you see on this page. Hopefully we will be able to enlarge it considerably in the next couple of years. Unfortunately we do not have the names of all the plants in our collection so if you think you can help with identifying them, drop us a note. |
