Palms and Cycads
Palms are used in the garden, usually in order to give a more tropical or even a more classy look. They are also used as indoor plants and you will find them decorating most homes, hotels and offices. In Cyprus three types of palms are widely used; Washingtonias, Phoenix (canariensis, dactylifera and roebellinii) and in the last few years Syagrus romanzoffiana (Queen Palm) is used as a landscape plant. Chamaerops humilis is also becoming popular, mostly because of its use by landscapers. Other relatively new introductions in the Cyprus market arethe Dypsis decaryi (triangle palm), Archontophoenix alexandrae, some Livistonas and others that are occasionally imported in smaller quantities.
Cycads are the oldest plants on Earth. They are slow growing but growing them is worth the wait. In Cyprus Cycas revoluta is in most gardens. Very few other types of cycads are found in the market in Cyprus and not often or everywhere. Zamia furfuracea and Cycas rumphii are sometimes sold by garden centers.
We have various sizes of palms and cycads. But, as we love these plants, we also grow different species from seed, species that are new to the Cyprus market. Below we separated the palms we hold in stock in two groups: the ones that we sell and the ones that we grow but are not yet for sale.
