Caesalpinia gilliesii

Yellow Bird of Paradise

Caesalpinia gilliesii comes from tropical Amarica, mainly Argentina. It is a semi deciduous tree, which means that it sheds some of its leaves in cooler climates. In Cyprus it is mostly evergreen.

It is a fast growing bush with attractive small bluish green leaves that look like a fern's leaves. Its spectacular flowers are very attractive, yellow and grow at the tip of the branches.

It is an easy plant to grow. Plant it in full sun or very light shade. It does well in all types of soil but preferers a well drained mix. When planted in the ground, it is a very drought tolerant plant. We never had a problem with pests or diseases with our Caesalpinias

We highly recommend Caesalpinia gilliesii for any garden, especially where water is a problem. An established plant can be left without water for weeks. Pruning is only needed to maintain a nice shape.
